Honorary Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Certificates Now Available

Over The Years, The Navy Has Established Four Enlisted Warfare Specialist Groups: Enlisted Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist (ESCWS); Enlisted Submarine Specialist (ESS); Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) And The Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS). The EAWS Qualification Program Was Established In March Of 1980 To Recognize Initiative, Exceptional Achievement And The Professional Qualifications Of Naval Aviation Enlisted Personnel. When VAL-4 Existed, There Was No Such Thing As An Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Qualification Program In The Navy. When HAL-3 Began Offering Honorary EAWS Items On Their Webpage To Former HAL-3 And FASU Members, Steps Were Then Taken To Make Honorary Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Certificates Available To Former Black Ponies.

In November Of 2007 A Request Was Made To The CNO Proposing That Enlisted Aviation Specialists From Vietnam Be Awarded The EAWS Certificate Similar To The Vietnam Combatant Craft Crewman Award That The Navy Had Authorized To Brown Water Sailors From TF-115, TF-116 And TF-117. The CNO Did Not Take Any Action On The Request, But NAVAIRLANT Admiral Delaney And Master Chief Pharr Took The Initiative To Issue Honorary EAWS Certificates To HAL-3 And FASU Maintenance Personnel. Discussions With Chief Pharr Made It Apparent That NAVAIRLANT Was Not Interested In Issuing A Similar Certificate For The Black Ponies.

An Honorary Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Certificate Signed By All Five VAL-4 Commanding Officers And A Certificate Of Appreciation Have Been Created And Are Now Available For $7 -
